Waverley Industries is a not-for-profit organisation offering employment opportunities for people with special needs. The business has been operating since 1984 with the aim of supporting people with intellectual disabilities with gaining more independence in their lives. Currently, Waverley Industries employs up to 330 adults with special needs across two sites in Notting Hill and Hallam. It has six divisions of business including packaging, assembly line operation, catering, woodwork, transport as well as garden and maintenance services.
Waverley Industries has many different divisions of its business to manage. One of the most prevalent divisions within the company is its packaging and assembling department. The challenge here was to find and identify waste of time and resources to increase their output rates.
Waverley Industries required new processes and training to enhance its business operations without disrupting their current operations and staff morale.
Vative introduced a Lean Manufacturing program, including 5S methodology (Sort, Set, Shine, Standardise Sustain). This program included quality control systems to reduce waste, improving lead time and eliminating double handling.
Waverley Industries achieved $250,000 worth of savings. More importantly, their staff were happier than ever with the new processes which helped them streamline their daily schedules and achieve key targets for the business.
With Vative’s assistance, staff members at Waverley Industries are thriving more than ever. Paperwork has been streamlined and jobs are finished much faster than before.
